O&M Power: Recalling the Legend of Orchid Pavilion and Celebrating Shangsi Festival with Poem Writing in IDX LanGuang Data Center
2017-04-01
Before the Tomb Sweeping Day, festivals arrive one after another, Shangsi Festival, Cold Food Festival, now people have plenty of time to go outings and meet friends in this pleasant and warm March. It’s really thrilling to just think about the things we could do, to take a bath and then hold sacrifice ceremonies in honor of gods and ancestors, to enjoy ourselves with an outing in a field full of blossoming flowers, soft willow branches, and green grass, to take part in a singing party or wine party, or sports like a swing contest or a football match, or cultural activities like sightseeing and poem-writing over a cup of drink flowing to you along a crook stream, or to meet the loved ones and stroll along streets or riverside walks, or share a smile over a bunch of roses…
In Year 353 A.D, on March 3rd of the 9th Yonghe Year of Easter Jin Dynasty, the world witnessed the most brilliant Shangsi Festival of all in history, the Orchid Assemble of Scholars. On that day, in the Orchid Pavilion on Mount GuijiShang, an excellent group of scholars, old and young, gathered for a small but high-rank academic discussion, including Mr. Xie An, Mr. Sun Chuo, Mr. Xie Wan, Mr. Yu You, and other 30-odd elites from upper class and noble families. After the gathering, Mr. Wang Xizhi, the greatest calligrapher of all times, wrote an article to summarize the whole event, i.e. the Orchid Pavilion Preface. After the agenda was finished, in high spirits, people held a ‘Floating Cup’ game, in which a cup of drink is released into a winding channel where there are many man-made turnings which might stop the cup floating along the stream. When the cup is stopped, the scholar who happens to sit at the turning would take it, drink it, write a poem or dink more as a punishment if he couldn’t write one.

By Tang Dynasty when China was in another prime time of economy, culture and military power, the Shangsi Festival also became more important and was all the more celebrated by all people from top class to the poorest ones. As a matter of fact, the imperial court issued a special imperial edict to ensure court officials not only have the free time for the festival, but also the money, in the form of emperor’s reward, to celebrate it. So, in that time, court officials could enjoy the festival in a very decent, admirable, comfortable and free way.
Just as said in an ancient poem, ‘In a good day on March third, come more beauties strolling riverbanks in Chang’an’, in this Shangsi Festival, the IDX LanGuang Data Center released a notice, LanGuang High and Low Voltage Distribution Cabinet Out of Service for Maintenance. It is actually a part of SDS power supply improvement plan. A maintenance and upgrading action will take place in summer and autumn to ensure and improve the SAL of power supply.
Let me put everything in one word. The coming Tomb Sweeping Festival is a great time for people to enjoy the spring to heart’s content. Allow me, the SDS news editor, to quote this line as my best wishes to all readers: ‘With happy smiles on faces, with the loved ones aside, let’s enjoy this spring day in Shangsi Festival”.
Notice of LanGuang High and Low Voltage Distribution Cabinet Out of Service for Maintenance
Summary
SDS has over a decade of experience in operating data centers. Relying on strong technical capacity and long and extensive experience in offering users with tailored services, it is able to provide successful solutions for many governmental agencies, financial institutions and famous transnational enterprises. It’s been eight years since the IDX LanGuang Data Center, one of SDS’s high-class data centers, started official operation. In order to guarantee service quality level, it’s planned to carry out maintenance works on its high and low voltage distribution cabinets this year. When the maintenance work is on, the UPS input and output distribution cabinets on Power Line A and B in the IDX LanGuang Data Center will be disconnected from the main circuit for a short period of time.
How should I deal with this maintenance work?
Please see it as an on-site test. It’s a good opportunity for you to understand how well your system could react in an emergency. Also, it’s a good time to see if your dual power supply units could really switch between two power sources seamlessly. Please be fully prepared before you start the test. That’s the right way to the success.
What preparations do I really need to get done?
First, check your cabinets and ensure that the two power lines of your dual power units are plugged in the PDU sockets on two different power lines. Only when they are plugged in different PDU sockets, can your dual power units really perform the dual power function.

When the maintenance is on, there is only one power line sustaining the power supply. Is that something I should worry about?
When the maintenance work is in progress, there is indeed only one UPS power supply line available. According to the definitions in TIA942, a Tier4 computer room should have double power supply lines to ensure each power supply line has sufficient downtime for necessary maintenance. And that’s exactly why we are able to maintain a SAL as high as 99.995%. There is chance that the only working power supply line should break down when the other line is out of service. But the chance is very low. And even if it should happen, we are able to keep our promise of ‘99.995% power availability’.
Maintenance Time:
A.2017.6.10 8:00-2017.6.11 20:00, UPS input and output distribution cabinets on Power Line A in the IDX LanGuang Data Center will be out of service for maintenance;
B.2017.9.23 8:00-2017.9.24 20:00, UPS input and output distribution cabinets on Power Line B in the IDX LanGuang Data Center will be out of service for maintenance;
>>>>Professional, reliable, high SAL Maintenance and Upgrading
Relying on strong technical capacity and professional service capacity to guarantee customer operations, as well as our extensive operating experience accumulated during the provision of various services to customers from different backgrounds over a long period of time, SDS O&M Team is able to successfully complete all maintenance and upgrading tasks while maintaining the normal operation of the entire data center. Currently, the IDX LanGuang Data Center is running as usual. In addition, a prudent assessment has been made to understand the potential risks in this maintenance project. A decision has been made to ensure that, during the maintenance, only one of the two power supply lines of a computer room will be disconnected from the circuit in one maintenance task. That is to say, SDS will and is able to carry out the maintenance project without having any user feeling any interruption. Meanwhile, the SDS O&M Team has already worked out a contingency plant against problems that might happen and will contact and encourage users to make their preparations and backup plans in advance.
Here ends the main body of the Notice of LanGuang High and Low Voltage Distribution Cabinet Out of Service for Maintenance

Thanks for all the wellness in spring and pray for all the blessings in summer;
Allow me to extend my best wishes to all our users with a poem of Yan Shu. Happy spring days!
Dance of the Cavalry by Yan Shu
Right on time swallows showed at sacrifice ceremony,
Right on time pear blossoms fell before Qingming Day;
With three or four leaves, green weeds start dotting the surface of water,
With one or two tweets, yellow warblers start trying new tunes in trees;
Longer is daytime getting on and lighter are catkins flying up and down.
On road to mulberry groves, beauties in neighborhoods exchange greetings and smiles;
No wonder I had an auspicious dream last night, it’s an omen of my winning of today’s grass game,
Said with joyful smiles on both faces;
